Authorities say a truck hauling beehives crashed and overturned on a Northern Michigan highway Wednesday, unleashing a swarm of bees.
The Charlevoix County sheriff’s department said there were about 50 million bees in the truck’s load of bee boxes when it crashed near Boyne City.
Officials called in professional beekeepers to help try and round up the bees. They estimate several hundred thousand bees never made it back into the boxes.
