Surrounded by his family and thousands of Astros fans, retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant Warren David, was recognized Sunday at Minute Maid Park in Houston. His service to others, however, was not limited to his military career.
Warren David is a true Acadiana treasure.
The lifelong Youngsville resident and SLI Graduate was barely 18 years old when he served in the Solomon Islands during WWII. In Korea, he was a harbor pilot and he also served in Vietnam.
After retiring from the military, David became a teacher. From the late 60s through much of the ’70s, he taught High School Horticulture in Pensacola, FL and General Science in Lafayette Parish at both Milton and Youngsville Elementary Schools. Renee Revett from the Acadiana Broadcasting Group remembers her 8th-grade science teacher as a passionate “larger than life” character whose stories made his class one of her favorites.
Warren, and his brother Jack, later opened David True Value Hardware on Pinhook Road where they served the surrounding community together for over 45 years.
David, who recently celebrated his 93rd birthday, was accompanied by his children Debi, Kim, Cindy, and Glenn during the Sunday night ceremony.
