Unbeknownst to Scott Tanner, the driver that was tailgating and honking behind him on a Seattle freeway was a wanted suspect that was leading police on a high-speed chase.
Tanner just thought the driver was ‘road raging’, so he slowed down and didn’t let the driver pass.
“I just thought it was an outraged driver,” Tanner told KIRO 7 News. “I didn’t put two and two together yet about a chase. The guy was behind our vehicle, honking at us, and at that point I was giving him some of my ideas of what I thought about his driving.”
Tanner was able to slow the driver down enough that 20-police cars were allowed to catch up and ultimately catch the suspect shortly after. It wasn’t until after the driver, 24-year old Arik Knapik, was arrested that Tanner learned about the truth of the incident.
